If you are like most parents that are new to piano lessons, you probably would want to start with a piano/keyboard/digital piano of some type. Most parents who are not sure if their child will continue with piano lessons, do not want to make a large musical investment to start. In this case, parents will purchase a keyboard in hopes that the aspiring new piano student will continue with their piano lessons. In our experience most students will continue their piano lessons and end up upgrading their current keyboard instrument to a piano or digital piano within two years.
Pianos, digital pianos and keyboards all vary in price, size and features. It is important to set a budget to see which pianos, digital pianos or keyboards fall into that budget. If purchasing a used piano you might want to contact a piano tuner and hire them to assess the instrument for you. If purchasing a keyboard or digital piano, you might want to ask a piano teacher which brands he/she prefers. In our experience, it is to your advantage to purchase the best that you can afford.
Our piano, keyboard, and digital piano teachers will do their best to work with the instrument you have. Because we are only interested in your musical education, we will honestly let you know if the instrument you are currently playing on is sufficient for the student.
