What makes a great music teacher?

With so many music teachers being available in Calgary you may wonder how to determine if your future music instructor is qualified to teach. After all, just because someone can play an instrument doesn't mean they can teach another person how to play as well.

At Imagine Music Inc. all our potential music teachers go through a rigorous interview process that requires a police background check and 3 references. It is our policy to only hire experienced music teachers. We listen to our teachers play and evaluate their performances before proceeding to the next phase.

We look for natural musical talent, sensitivity; a strong theoretical foundation and finally the ability to communicate the more subtle elements of playing a musical instrument that are required to develop cheerful students who see playing music as a labour of love instead of simply hard work.

We believe that only the best music teachers have the ability to develop even better students because they know how to encourage as well as instruct.

Ultimately, while it is the desire of the student to learn new ideas, take the time to practice and be inspired that will result in achieving a well rounded and enjoyable musical experience, it is the music teacher who will lead the beginner through the hard times to the fun parts.
